Wordless Wednesday: Signs of the Homeless

Heartbreaking photographs. This is an issue that feels insurmountable; and yet it is easy to ignore or even to become desensitized to it. These photos humanize the problem of homelessness. A very sad reminder, and a powerful call to action.

What a sad picture.. Shouldn’t have to be this way.. for anyone.

Homelessness is such a big problem. If only we all have the capacity to give these people a comfortable home. Then these scenes would no longer exist.

Nice theme.. Exposing the reality of the urban jungle…

I like the bottom photo, love the composition and the black and white. We see homeless people more and more in Australia, sad that in the west people feel so out of place. Happy WW.

Eeek, as I read my comment above I though how awful it read. I think it is a sad state of affairs that anybody anywhere in the world should be homeless. Not just in the west.

Sadly, I’m afraid we will see more of that before it gets better.

My heart always goes out to the homeless people, especially now that it’s winter. But because there are those who are “not that helpless” who abuse some people’s goodness, I am wary of extending a little help.

Those are very vivid pictures of the homeless.

That second photo could have come right out of Life magazine. Even the seams on his touque make a cross. Great capture!

I like the Starbucks cup in the first photo. Overall it has some good contrast and reminds me of beat writing. My favorite homeless sign that I’ve run into several times is the “I need money to buy alcohol” sign. They’re the only ones I give money to. If you want a little more of a reaction shot, try having someone throw a bit of ice water on them before you shoot. Hot (McDonald’s) coffee works too, but the water is cheaper. A more profitable sign might be: “Kick me: $1.00. Kick me when I’m down: $5.00.”
