You have to fight for your right to party vote.
One day away from Election Day and I find myself worried that I won’t be able to vote. Not because I am not registered. It is more of a concern because my name is spelled wrong on the books. It has been spelled wrong for years but it wasn’t until recently that they started checking ID or are they? I’m actually not sure as to what the truth of the ID situation is. That is something I’ll have to look up later. In my neighborhood, the people who handle the election site aren’t all that competent, so I hope it all works out in my favor.
DO YOU KNOW WHO YOUR FRIENDS ARE?
After having dinner with a friend of mine, I found out that she is a Black Republican. That knowledge hit me like a ton a bricks. Not that fact that she was black but that she was an Republican. She grew up in the city and could have been considered poor, in her younger years. So for her to sit there and be a Republican baffled me. I didn’t quite understand how someone, black and who grew up so poor could be a Republican. She had an explanation for it all… “My mother is a Republican. She told me that if I became a Republican then I’d never be out of work.” So I had to ask, “have you ever been out of work?” She replied, “no.” Who knew of this? If this is the case then I, too could be a Republican. But of course, I’m not one.
There must be something to this Republican thing though. Because most people say that Republicans look out for each other, more so than Democrats. Not sure how that really works out but it sounds like a great comparison on how some people look at Jews and Blacks. Jews look out for each other, a very tight-knit group. Black people? Not so much.
UNDECIDED/LAZY
Who are these undecided people who cannot, for the life of them, make a decision on who to vote for in tomorrow’s election? I was just walking with a co-worker to get coffee and she told me she wasn’t sure who she was going to vote for. After much discussion, it appeared that she was just too lazy to go down to the polls. But after some prodding on my part, it was found that she wasn’t aware of each candidate’s platform. She says, “Whether I vote or not, Obama is going to get the New York Electoral College Votes so it doesn’t really matter.” For those who are aware, like (we’ll call him) James, he doesn’t feel for either candidate. He believes Obama to be full of shit and doesn’t trust a word he is saying. And, as for McCain, well, he doesn’t have much to say on him other than the fact that he reminds him of and smells just like Bush. He went on to say that had Hillary ran, he would vote. But he won’t be wasting his time voting in this election.
Where do you stand? Do you know who you are voting for?
How ever you want to vote – just know YOU CAN VOTE HOWEVER YOU LIKE

Observations
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

Not surprisingly, I voted Liberal.
This was one of the poorest voter turnouts in Canadian history, so the apathy seems to be pretty widespread.
I wouldn’t worry about your name being misspelled. Up here in Canada when I worked the election last month, one of the forms I had at my disposal was a Corrections form, made for precisely your kind of problem: typos in one’s name or address. I’m sure you guys have an equivalent form. Just be polite and pro-active and point out the error to the greeter at the polling station; they should be able to tell you who will take care of that detail.
i know who I’M voting for. someone who can bring about real change and not for 4 to 8 years.
We have fair number of black Republicans up here in CT. Some run for office and do very well. However they are more old school Republicans and, like their white Republican counterparts, are more more conservative when it comes to taxes and money issues. Therefore they are moderate in the grand scheme of things.
I don’t know about Republican’s sticking with each other. I have found that they don’t seem to give a damn about anyone. It’s everyman for himself. This is what turns me off to the party.
I am decided and I am off to the polls! Obama all the way! Don’t worry about the misspelling of your name. I’m sure it will work out. If you were in Florida I would tell you to worry.
I’m not sure about the ID thing in NY, but I just came from voting and any thing such as voter’s registration card, utility bills, etc, in your name will suffice. I do recall hearing once that majority of republicans at one time were African-American… I do not know how or when that changed or if it was even true but I don’t see anything wrong with a person choosing what party they feel in their hearts they belong to. That’s just my opinion… By the way, I’m a Democrat all the way… In all honesty, I really don’t believe too much of what the candidates have to say. However, I do lean more towards one person for presidency and that decision was based on his words being more believable then the other. Now, all I have to do is watch and see if the actions reflect those promises made.
