It’s Halloween, Again

Halloween 2008

Trick or Treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat… Not something I’ve ever sang but I can hear it in my head as if it was yesterday. No one ever came knocking on my door during my younger years, living in the projects. However, I do recall knocking on a few doors myself as a youngster. But I never actually knocked for any type of treats.

In my younger years, my mother put me into a day care center. This day care center was into philanthropy so during the Halloween season (if it can be considered a season) we ended up going door to door in the vicinity of the day care center asking people for money. But we went begging for money for a cause, UNICEF.

I’m not quite sure if they still raise money for UNICEF but it was during those times that sparked my charitable fund raising. It was easy to put on the Mr. T costume and ask for cash rather than candy. I remember raising the most money back then, which often resulted in my group raising the most cash out of everyone class that participated.

This season I won’t be doing any of that. Instead, I’ll attend the NYC Halloween Parade for the first time. Hopefully I’ll have some good material to show off on a future Wordless Wednesday post.

There’s a Hallowe’en parade?

Urban Thought November 1, 2008

rawdawg: LOL… Nah, no AM.

Meleah: I wish you the same.

Lavenderbay: Yes. It occurs every year in the city. This year they have lost all their sponsors because of the economic crisis.

Knocking on doors on Halloween raising money for a good cause isn’t a bad idea at all. I don’t celebrate anymore but when I did, it was exciting knowing that I’d come away with a massive amount of candy. I still love sweets to this day. Hope you enjoyed the festivities!

I have been sick so I didn’t celebrate this year.
Kids in costumes asking to donate money to UNICEF is a can’t miss affair.

I think you as a kid in the Mr.T costume would make excellent wordless Wednesday fare.
