First Time: First Dance

First Dance
(Based off of Miles Davis’ Flamenco Sketches)
On the tip of a patent leather toe
love somehow oiled my squeaky veins,
spinning and tip-toeing a rhythmic trail into my heart.
With overhead lights and smoky-like trails
I seem to be twirling without moving;
Slowly I drink in the spirit of you.
Fingertips trace hands, neck and yours rightfully fall on hips.
In coyness, a lacy leg introduces itself to linen pants
lifting slowly, curling your calf quietly,
disappearing as quick as the sixteenth notes that fly by.
1-2-3 pulse, like the quickening of my breath as you dip me
into a pool of rosy like silence
Pure and pristine
Then with palm on small of back
lifting me back in time for the 4-5-6
Two parts of a moving grooving pendulum,
spins, turns, dips and smiles
intrigue turns to fascination turns to questions:
are you real or are we just lucky dance lovers meant to part at the end of the song?
Close my eyes
making a point not to think
The essence of you
breath, mint and cologne
remain caressing my neck,
up one side and shivers down the other
Hold me and hopefully tonight as my smile grows bigger
we continue to sway – just sway, 1-2-3 4-5-6
until the song ends too soon
Too soon.
