Imagine not having your phone on the two busiest days of the weekend, Friday and Saturday. Also, think about the fact that you had a friend coming in from out of the country who wanted to hang out with you. But, because you didn’t have a phone they couldn’t get in touch with you.
Something else to think about is all those people that you normally text every day for the sake of keeping in good communication with. They started sending you those text messages such as “I hope you aren’t mad at me. I haven’t heard from you” or “did you forget about me today? You haven’t text me all day.” The latter message being sent at close to midnight. All I could think was: If you really wanted to know if I was thinking about you, wouldn’t you have text me a little earlier in the day? Why is it that you text me at the end of your day wondering if I thought about you or not?
Another thing that I find funny is that people claim to worry about you. They send you repeated text messages: I’m worried. Why aren’t you responding? If you were really worried wouldn’t you have called my voice mail?
If I’m without a phone then I don’t have your number any where else. I know that is my fault. I should have it backed up, but I don’t. So if you want me to contact you why not leave me a voice mail and let a brother know you are thinking about him.
Does that make sense to anyone else or is it just me?

Yes, makes perfect sense. sorry for all the trouble you went through over the weekend.
Are you covered for a replacement phone?
Ricardo: Thanks. I thought it was just me. I have full insurance on my phone so I won’t have to pay a dime out of pocket.
thats almost as bad as not having your blog for 4 days…and having MONO on top of it so you dont even have the energy to DEAL with any of it….
Losing your phone SUCKS !
I’m a bit old school in that as much as I use email and vmail I still send cards and letters. I don’t text mainly because it’s an extra charge on my phone!
I also think that if someone is truly worried, they would try all other forms of communication! I mean, really. I’ll send the email. Then I’ll leave the vmail.
Sometimes I’ve asked myself the question, “If I disappeared, how soon would it take for people to start looking?”
I figgered it would take about a week. Sure I work but I dunno how long it would take for my employer to wonder and try to reach folks. People are usually loathe to call the police and file missing persons reports (or so I assume).
Of course, best case scenario is that people know I’m responsible and would take my not leaving some kinda…trail as a sign.
I know… a bit off topic but still kinda on as text messaging, “I’m worried” seems not that worried.
Meleah: Yeah, kinda sorta. I’m glad that you’re back and in full force.
TT: Tell me about it. But this isn’t my first time. I don’t think it will be my last. I’m just thankful for insurance.
Ms. Q: Hold on to your old school ways and never let that go. Life and how we react so automated these days. Not sure if that makes sense to you but it sounds better in my head.
Given your past job I can see a week. But the job you have now I would assume that anything past two days would cause some worry. For me, it would be a day missed a phone call and then someone is stopping by your home.
Funny. I also “lost” my phone this weekend. Well, actually, I left it at the gym where I taught on Sunday morning. I realized that I didn’t have it when I was in the train station on my way back home. At that point, I’d have to come out of the train station and walk 3 long avenues back to the gym to get it. I decided that I could live without it until the next evening, when I’d be back at that same gym.
Now…that’s a phone. I can live without a phone for a couple days.
But a day without my laptop? A day with no access to my email? IMPOSSIBLE!!! I am such a laptop/internet junkie. You know you can always get me by email. Or by leaving a message on one of my blogs, if need be. Everyone that knows me knows that!! I’ll pick up email faster than I’ll pick up a phone message. lol
You know something has happened to me when you can’t find any of my footprints online….
I feel ya on that one. The thing is that the phone I have…..is a Crackberry! I remember going a day without it, I nearly freaked!
FD: I think the government will appreciate you if they ever put you under investigation. They always love an electronic footprint. Not wishing that on you at all. I know what you mean though.
Los: Oh, no doubt. I think we all feel the same way about our “crackberries.” That is one of the phones that I carry with me and if I forget to leave the house without it I usually go back, no matter the distance.
