I am a FAN of that. Really I am.
I’ve looked at this photo several times. It says a lot to me. First of all these “boxes” have jumped up all over the hood. In my neighborhood they’re popping up all down Fulton. Its a very eerie reminder of Big Brother. I’m not so sure it does anything to help NYPD police the streets as in most cases the “perps” will be long gone by the time they arrive. Makes me think if its not a GOVERNMENT camera…NYPD branded as if to throw the average citizen incident off their sent.
“Security” nah dog. There’s nothing that makes you secure if that camera is in your hood.
My last observation is the background. Thought, where is the Photo taken because it almost looks like one of the apartment buildings on the Upper West Side? I know that doesn’t make sense because to my knowledge those cameras are only in “HIGH CRIME” areas. But what do I know.
Meleah: I couldn’t get to the photos as I wanted to but I should have them up within the next week.
Skee Stylus: The photo was taken at Penn Station. The building you see is actually Hotel Pennsylvania. The fashion district isn’t considered a high crime area but it is a highly trafficked area. Seeing it as a transportation hub for the MTA, Amtrak, and NJ transit only makes sense that the camera is there.
They have quite a few of these near the Project I live in. It is more to keep an eye on folks coming and going rather than to deter crime.
