Perhaps, I’ve been living under a rock but I didn’t know who Michael Vick was until this dog fighting mess hit the press. I came to find out he was one of the highest paid players in the NFL (something I’ve heard but cannot prove). I actually thought he was in the NBA until someone set me straight. (Note: I am not a sports fan, if you couldn’t tell.)
Someone please explain to me why someone who was worth $100 Mil+ would engage in an illegal activity such as dog fighting? It isn’t enough that you are making money playing something that you enjoy? Getting extra cash from endorsement deals didn’t hurt either. But to supplement your income or to give you something else to do outside of your football career you have to resort to dog fighting?
Did Michael Vick not know that people value dogs more than human life? No, I’m not joking. It is the truth. You go around and look at what some people are saying and you’ll agree. Like 4PL from Highbrid Nation :
“…Did he fight or kill dogs himself? No! There hasn’t been this much backlash over a human being getting killed. If people protested the War as hard as they protest Mike Vick the troops would be home right now. This proves one thing to me people value dogs lives more than humans. Perfect example, OJ was ordered to pay $35 mill to the Goldman family only after beating the criminal trial, he lost in the civil for murdering two humans something he till this day wont admit he did. Mike Vick has to pay $20 mil for funding a dogfighting operation were a few dogs were killed and he’s already admitted guilt. So your telling me the humans were only worth $15 mil more. “
In my opinion, Michael Vick isn’t being fined for animal cruelty. He is being fined for stupidity.
A note to the rich folk out there: If you are making millions find another hobby like golf or ice fishing. Don’t deal in illegal activities such as dog fighting or drug dealing. If you’re a dummy go back to school. I know school doesn’t teach you common sense but maybe it will keep you busy enough not to engage in activities that will leave you in the poor house or in the dog house.
Please check the people you have in your camp. They should be shielding you from such acts of stupidity.

Yes he is one of the top earners in the NFL and one of the few African American quarter backs around. He had tons of endorsement deals from Nike and such to boot! All down the tunes now.
They say that the terrible practice of dog fighting is not seen as such a taboo thing in the south and he grew up participating in these things. Contrary to the source you quoted, he did execute some of the dogs.
Now the life value thing is true in my opinion. I have seen plenty of examples where it seems as if human life takes a far second to animal life. I love animals but consider there is actually another NFL player that actually killed someone and got a light sentance and is STILL playing! Didn’t hear about that one!
I don’t like what Vick did at all. It’s reprehensible. But if he killed anothe man who wa black at a night club, would there be as much outrage?
I too live under a rock, if not the same rock as you do! I had no idea who M. Vick was until you mentioned him. I still wouldn’t except you brought him up! You’re right, people don’t seem to value human life as much as animals. Sure I like animals and I certainly don’t want them suffering but I do realize that a dog is very different than a person (as much as people want to be called “Pet Guardians” instead of “Pet Owners” in certain parts of the country).
When I read about celebrities or anyone who attains the heights of their profession and then crashes due to a scandal, I wonder at who they really are, who their friends are. I think that’s why so much of what I read these days about really being successful is about giving to receive. Seems like if you have your heart and mind in the right place, you may fail at something but you won’t be a failure. Maybe M. Vick will learn something from this. In fact, he should as it’s quite an expensive lesson. But he might as well get something out of it!
Oops! Meant to say “down the tubes.” :-/ still adjusting to this tiny blackberry keyboard whichi is what I wrote the comment on. Hope your doing well my friend.
Ricardo: You’re so right. Oh… I do the blackberry thing to. I wish it came with spell check. I’m doing well. Having a rough day but my head is above water (and not six feet under).
Ms. Q: Hopefully through this time of difficulty humbleness will take over and cause him to reevaluate his life. Realigning what makes sense and kicking dead weight to the curb. He really needs to change the company he keeps and grow into an adult with a full understanding of how the world works.
