An Oddity: Mr. Nice Guy

08.27.07 | User ImageUrban Thought | 2 Observations

Walking into the office, each morning you have some people who speak to you and those who don’t. Often times you can pass someone up to five times without saying a word to each other. Then the afternoon comes and you finally say hi. Not because you have to, just because.

Plenty of us come in grumpy, flustered, bewildered or plain, old not in the mood to work today mode. Others come in pleasant but silent. But there is this one dude in the office that is always in a good mood. Never complains about anything. Always has a kind word to say. He even inquires about what your weekend plans are, wishes you well. Just says hello, while you’re sending a fax. You’ll see him a few times during the day and he’ll acknowledge your presence.

Having that type of energy in the office is great. But, for some reason I find it odd (not odd in a bad way). No one can be that nice all the time. He has to have a bad side about him. Why is he always so upbeat and gung-ho about life? Why do I find this behavior to be odd? Shouldn’t this be the norm?

My way of thinking is in need of a change. We can all take a page from his book on how to approach life each day.
