Morning routines rarely changed during my childhood. I’d wake up to the sound of my cousin walking through the door from one of his late night romps with the neighborhood chicks. Followed by my grandmother yelling about someone leaving the door unlocked or not washing the tub out. Both offenses made by the same person who just walked through the door.
After all of that I ended up doing my thing. Brushing of the teeth, washing the body and then having a meal. My mother would leave for work and then you know what was next, the morning cartoons. Yes, the morning cartoon. Cartoons were the topic of conversation once I arrived at school. We’d all be in the cafeteria waiting for our teacher to pick us up for class.
GI Joe, Gumby, Carebears and of course The Transformers. The Transformers were the greatest of cartoons. The neat thing about cartoons at that time was that they all came with their very own action figures. Those times were the greatest. Kids today have it so much better. They get an online experience along with a video game, nice.
Feeling old is starting to set in. The movie industry is now giving you The Transformers like I’ve never seen them before. Yes, they got a transformation but the characters are all there, for the most part.

Just the other day I was walking down the street in Spanish Harlem and came across a wall that took me back to my youth. The picture below is that wall. I was born in a great time when cartoons were simple and made sense (LOL).

I remember Transformers (I will have that song stuck in my head all day now)
I sometimes watch cartoons with my son now, and they are very different then when I was little. I can only stand to watch Billy & Mandy, and Fosters Home.
I miss the days of Tom & Jerry.
Whoa… Tom & Jerry. Woody Woodpecker, Pop-eye, Road Runner. Those are classics that I miss.
I haven’t watched a cartoon in a long time. I’m so stuck on Law & Order.
I LOVED transformers growing up. I still have on on my desk. Jazz, he turns into a Porsche. The movie looks cool and I may see it to bring back old memories. The special effects look great.
BTW that is a awesome mural pictured.
Ricardo: Jazz was my the best. All my Transformer action figures have gone missing. I think my cousin took them.
You’re right. That mural is awesome.
Great find! The artist did a terrific job.
Transformers was one of my faves too, and I remember that I even dragged my dad to see the movie which I thought was the best thing ever, except for the Constructicons
