I'm just north of you in CT and while I'd love to move to New York, it's just impossible to do so. I don't understand how people get by even with 15 rommates. I know some are saying "reverse white flight" but we've also got a ton of Wall Street "refugees" moving up here to southern CT and it become very crowded as a result. It they feel the squeeze I feel sorry for the middle class and poor.

The poor moving upstate and to Long Island is definately the plan - call it reverse white flight. Folks started to wise up and realize that it is cheaper to live in a city than commute to one.
