It’s always something with Idol. One was the ouster of J-Hud (Jennifer Hudson) and the other two members of the ‘Three Divas.’ And then there was Frenchie Davis. The one time American Idol contestant who was kicked off the show for some photos that she took that was considered porn (nothing that would turn pages of Playboy, but whatever).

Now we have Antonella Barba, current contestant, who may have porn pictures out there. The difference between Antonella and Frenchie? Antonella is staying on the show. Why? The producers don’t think the pictures are of Barba, so she stays.

And now, community leaders and an organization called Chris Tian & Friends (Frechie Davis’ fan club, in my opinion) are coming after Idol. Why? Because they say that Idol is racist. Frenchie was kicked off because she was perceived to be a slut and Antonella isn’t.

Why is race the first element of a situation Black folks see when one of our own are singled out and disqualified? Is racism indeed the problem here? Could it be that the pictures of Barba are fake and Frenchie’s were real and was good reason to through her off the show?

So what are the folk asking for? A return of Frenchie to Idol. Why bother Frenchie? Is it not enough that your career is doing something, if nothing at all. You have “Rent” so your rent is paid? Why fight to go back to a place where people didn’t want you? It isn’t the same as being forced to the back of the bus.
