The Homeless: Fixtures of the City
By Urban Thought on October 5, 2006 @ 6:54 pm
Homelessness doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. And most of us are just one paycheck away from being without. How often do you pass by a homeless person on the street and not even take notice? On my journey through the city today you can find them everywhere.
This particular day all the homeless people pictured are outside a restaurant or grocery store.
Special Note: The only person eating is sitting in front of a Whole Foods Market. Who says the homeless don’t eat healthy?

I think people ignore them not because they don’t like them, but they feel that they can’t help them. I’ve learned that homelessness doesn’t judge. That it can happen to anyone of us.
I usually always take notice, and want to help, but this is NYC and one has to be careful. I know I have had a scare with a crazy homeless man who grabbed my nicely washed sweater, leaving his greasy prints all over it! So, there is fear with helping some of them because you just never know. However, I do put some change in the cups of the homeless representatives who say they have fresh sandwiches and snacks. I always give to them. What’s weird is the picture of the woman eating where there is a homeless person right under her. Yuck. I’m sorry but I wouldn’t be having a meal where there is a homeless individual sitting so close. Just my two cents
