The Truth: Does it really hurt?

By Urban Thought on September 14, 2006 @ 12:43 am

You watch TV and you see The Truth commercials and you ask yourself does it really hurt smoke a cigarette? I cannot knock someone for doing what they enjoy. But ask yourself how wrong can these commercials be? Are they speaking the whole truth and nothing but the truth? And after all these years of bad press for cigs why are people still purchasing loosies (single cigs sold out the pack, usually goes for 50¢ to a $1) and even packs of cigarettes? NYC charges a good $7 for a pack. You do the math for an average smoker and you can come close to $500 a year in costs. But enough of all that.

All this sparked from seeing an actual Truth commercial being done right in the heart of Columbus Circle. You never know where you’ll run into the truth. They say, ‘The Truth Shall Set You Free.’ But has it really for NYC? Everywhere you go you see cigs on the ground and people gathering outside just for a cancer stick. Where would we be socially without it? If you want to see someone who is hungry for a fix you go to a smoker. They will stand in the cold for a few pulls off a cigarette. If only we put as much effort into putting money away into a savings account or helping the community. We would sure enough be far ahead of where we are today.

This day on the truth the presented ice sculpted pregnant woman. One of the hottest days of the summer man of he babies ended up falling to the ground as the ice melted. This represents the many miscarriages woman experience because of the effects of smoking.Â

You want to know the Truth? You can’t handle the Truth!

Although I may agree that smoking is not a healthy choice and that’s coming from a smoker myself. Smoking is not the reasons why society hasn’t moved forward in terms of financial stability. I may be comparing apples and oranges here, but if we put as much effort into the clothes we buy or the jewels we wear into a savings account, then maybe we would be in better shape.

And just to let you know, having cigarette butts on the streets is not a bad thing. It’s creating Jobs. Here we have program called MOST, which was created by Downtown Biz by hiring bums/homelessness for minimum wage to clean the streets. So when I throw my cigarette butts on the street I’m not littering, I’m creating jobs.

If a woman has a miscarriage because she was dumb enough smoke, then she would of never made a good mother in the first place.

Why doesn’t alcohol get the same scrutiny as smoking anyway? It’s as equally not healthy, it doesn’t look good on the streets and it’s much more expensive if you ask me.
